The whole school puts on two extra special performances during the year with a celebration at Christmas and the beloved ‘Seó ‘le Pádraig’. See the calendar for upcoming events.

Green Schools Committee

Our Green Schools Committee  do a lot of work to keep our school clean and tidy.

We put on competitions and events to get everyone aware of recycling and keeping the school and local environment clean. One girl came up with a very good slogan in sixth class ‘Live Green, Live Better, One Planet, One Chance’ and now that is our Green School’s motto.

Recently, our school got our third green flag.

Student Council

Our Student Council meets once a month to discuss what is happening in the school.  Suggestions and recommendations are passed on from each class through their Student Council Representative.  Issues raised may be about upcoming events or about some problem the children have noticed, along with possible solutions.  Once the suggestions are made and discussed the Chairperson and Secretary make an appointment with the Principal to keep her up to date with the feelings and ideas of the students.  Student Council elections are held in January and the new representatives are presented with their Student Council badges by the outgoing representatives at Assembly in front of the whole school.

Table Quizzes

All pupils from our 4th, 5th and 6th Classes are invited to take part in the training for the table quizzes, then after school level run offs, teams progress forward to the quizzes which are run by the League of Credit Unions of Ireland held as part of Credit Union Week in October.

The annual Spellathon run by Easons bookstore causes great excitement in the school. Class competitions are held and the final takes place in the school halla. The school’s top speller goes forward to the County Level finals where we have performed very well in recent years.

School Tours

Every year, we aim to take trips locally to avail of the wonderful things to do in Cork. Trips to date have included visit to Ballyhass Lakes, Crawford Art Gallery Tours, Rumleys Farm Visit, Midleton for Clay and the Mardyke Arena.

In addition to this, we receive visits from the Junior Achievement programme, Suas Literacy Volunteers, Foroige workers, attend courses with our parents organised by the home school links coordinators such as mad science, art and gardening activities, UCC Professor Fluffy, and Visits from Science Centres of Excellence.
