Return to School Update 24th August 2020

24th August 2020

Dear Parent / Guardian, Staff Member

RE: Fáilte ar ais

The BoM and School Staff are looking forward to welcoming all our pupils and parents/guardians back to school for the 2020/2021 school year on Thursday 27th August 2020.

We are satisfied that we have control measures in place to ensure that this will be a safe re-opening.  It will take some time for all of us to get used to the “new circumstances” as we become familiar with the new routines and procedures designed to keep everyone safe and to prevent the spread of the virus.  There will, undoubtedly, be some unforeseen challenges and we will deal with these as they arise.

We would like to thank you for your co-operation in making preparations to date and look forward to working with you as we assist the children adapt to the necessary changes.  We are also conscious of the fact that our pupils have not been in school since March and that they are looking forward to coming back to school to meet their friends again.  We are aware that our new pupils are beginning a school year at a challenging time and have made plans to ensure that their arrival will be as free from stress as possible.

We have further amendments to the Return to School safely plan which we will now draw your attention to.

Homework

We will give the children their homework to do in school until Friday the 11th September. There will be no books going home for this period. We will review this again.

School Bags

The children will bring their school bags with them to school on the first morning and these will be left in the classroom and used to store their books for the first few weeks.  After that, the children will just be transporting home a small bag with their lunch, milk carton, water bottle and School Journal.

If you have decided not to take part in the Book Rental Scheme, the school journal is available to buy from the class teacher for 3 euro. If you are taking part in the Book Rental Scheme, the journal is included in the price.

Communication with the School.

Please use the school journal to contact the teacher.

Bad Weather preparation.

Please give a set of spare socks to your daughter to keep in school in case she gets caught in the bad weather. Also, make sure she has raingear for going to and from school and while getting out for fresh air throughout the day.

Online Homework.

To keep going on the great progress made throughout the lockdown using I.T., we hope that as the months go on, we will include some online interaction with our homework.

Social and Emotional Wellbeing.

If there is any issue which has arisen in relation to your child’s social, emotional or educational welfare since she was last in school, and which you feel the school should be aware of, please e-mail the school at office@stpatricksgirls.net and the Principal, or another Staff member, will contact you to discuss the matter.

Uniform

Children will wear their uniform on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and their tracksuit on Thursdays and Fridays.

le meas,

Eileen Kelly
