Communion 19th September 2020

15th September 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Saturday September 19th will be a big day in your daughter’s life. We are all looking forward to a truly wonderful day.

The Government’s medium term plan for living with Covid was published today.  Level 2 allows for a capacity of greater than 50 in separated sub-groupings of no more than 50, with additional protective measures as per guidelines.

We can achieve 2 separated sub-groupings by keeping to the old 2nd class groupings. One group will include Ms Quill’s old class and the other group will include Ms Coughlan’s old class.

Two people will now be allowed attend with each child.

Ms Quill’s second class will sit on the left centre aisle and left side aisle and Ms Coughlan’s second class will sit on the right centre aisle and right side aisle.

The seats have been marked in the church and people are asked to start sitting in the front seats and work backwards. One family of three people per seat (The First Communion Girl and 2 people).

At the end of the ceremony

The children will process out of the church in their 2nd class groupings. Ms Quill’s class will exit via the left hand door at the bottom of the church and Ms. Coughlan’s girls will exit via the right hand door at the bottom of the church.

Please note the following:

  • The First Communion Mass will begin at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Mayfield.
  • Children will need to be in their seats for 10.45 a.m.
  • Please practise the responses and prayers with your daughter which your teacher has given you.
  • The children will have practised in school receiving communion by hand but it would be helpful to practise this at home as well.
  • The children will go up to the altar to receive their holy communion by hand. Please make sure they are not wearing gloves for this.
  • The sacristan and the priest will give the communion to the rest of the people in their seats.

We would like to wish each and every family a very happy and memorable day.

Yours sincerely,

Eileen Kelly

Please note that NO cameras or videos are to be used during the ceremony.
