Dear Parents,

I hope you are all keeping well and enjoying the build up to the Christmas season.

As you are aware, under Level 3 guidelines, no indoor gatherings are permitted. For us this Christmas, it means that we will not be able to host our annual Christmas pageant in St. Joseph’s Church. But the spirit of Christmas is alive and well in the school and we have a number of events coming up for your child.

The whole school campus has been involved in the design of Christmas Cards for the Old Peoples’ Homes which will be delivered during the run up to Christmas.  Follow the journey of the cards on the campus Instagram page #wearestpatrickscork

On Friday 11th December, there will be a fundraising event for Cork City Hospitals Children’s Club. The children are invited to wear a Christmas Hat or have a crazy Christmas Hairstyle and bring in €2 if they can.

On Wednesday 16th December, we are all off to the Pantomime (in our classroom). Oh no we are not!! Oh yes we are! Children are invited to bring in a little healthy treat or two to nibble on during the performance.

Finally, on Tuesday 22nd December, keep an eye out for our annual ’12 Days of Christmas’ singalong on the website, sure to bring a smile to your faces.  Children can also wear a Christmas jumper to school on Tuesday 22nd December as we finish for Christmas holidays at 12pm on the day.

Current Covid-19 restrictions have also unfortunately affected how we can share our Christmas wishes with each other. For this year, we are asking that children do not share physical Christmas cards and physical gifts with other children and staff members. We have never asked or encouraged people to show goodwill or thanks in a particular way, however this year we need to do all we can to ensure safety of all in our school community.

Thank you for your continued support throughout this current school year. It has been a challenging time for all in our school community, as we continue to work hard for as positive a school experience we can provide for our children. Your support of our Covid-19 Response Plan and the understanding and co-operation of your children has maintained a safe environment of our children and staff. I thank you all sincerely for this.

A reminder that any child feeling unwell should not come to school. Please be alert to the symptoms of Covid-19 and we ask you to commit to checking for the symptoms below each morning:

fever / high temperature

persistent cough

shortness of breath

change in senses of taste or smell

We look forward to an exciting few weeks ahead in our school. Christmas is always a special time to share with the children in St. Patrick’s Girls’ National School, and this year will be no different!

Kind regards,

Eileen Kelly

Principal
