Today my class and I went to the Crawford art gallery in cork city. Our teacher Ms Hogan and another teacher Ms Conran brought us there. We walked there from our school and when we arrived we went upstairs to the Long Room. The first piece we looked at was a 3-D model of the gallery it was very well made and looked impressive. There was also pictures of the interior and exterior of the building they looked nice. Then we looked at a painting of cork in 1800s. It didn’t look anything like it does now. The only thing I could recognise was the Shandon Bell. After that the teachers said we could look at the paintings ourselves for a while. I saw so many amazing paintings there. I saw a landscape painting that was made from wool!
After we had finished looking at the long room we made our way into the Penrose room. When we first got in there we looked at a painting of Nano Nagle with children around her. It was painted amazingly. When we had finished looking and talking about that we began looking at the mayor of Cork in the 1770s. It was very tall. I think 6 foot. The painting looked very old but still nice. After that we left the Penrose room and headed down stairs to the statue room.
When we first got to the statue room we looked at a statue of Lacoon and his sons. In the painting Lacoon was bitten by a huge snake .We talked about that statue for a while. Ten the teachers said to go around and draw one or two of the statues. When we had finished drawing we looked at a few more of the statues and then moved into another part of the gallery where they change the art in there regularly so there is always something new to see there.
The first thing we saw when we walked in was a glass display case with old rocks in it. Then we entered a room with a screen and a bench we didn’t stick around to watch it. We then moved on to look at another piece of art. It was a big wall with pictures of flowers on it. They were all different and they all looked amazing. We admired then for a few minutes but then moved away to look at other pieces of art for a while. After we looked at the other art pieces we left that part of the gallery to look somewhere else.
We headed up to the third floor of the gallery to look there. Then we got there it was full of armchairs and sofas. We sat there for a while and then went to the bathroom. Wen we were all finished in the bathroom we headed outside to have lunch. We ate on the steps outside the Opera house.
When we finished our lunch, we headed back up to the third floor of the gallery again, but we didn’t stay for long. We left the third floor and used the bathroom once more and then left the gallery to head back to school. We were about to walk back home when our amazing teacher Ms Hogan surprised us with ice-creams for the walk home!
I really enjoyed the Crawford art gallery, and I would love to go back there sometime.
