Dear Parents and Guardians,
Following the announcement that we will not be re-opening before Easter, and with every expectation that we won’t be re-opening any time soon, I just wanted to check in and let you know that we are thinking of you, missing your daughters and hoping that everyone is keeping safe and well.
I know that lots of people are under pressure from many directions, many are feeling stressed and overwhelmed; as Principal I hope that your daughter’s schoolwork is not adding to that pressure.
Right now, you are supporting your children through this difficult time. Look after yourself. You can not pour from an empty cup. Minimising stress is absolutely vital in a time like this for mental health. Don’t let schoolwork be something that stresses you or your child.
We are preparing some more ideas to send to you after Easter if this continues. In the meantime, try to enjoy the Easter holidays; mind yourself and mind each other. Remember, if we can come through this with our health and sanity intact we will have achieved a lot.
Best wishes,
Eileen Kelly

Letter for Parents
Dear Parents/Guardians of 1st class students,
I hope you are all keeping well during these challenging times. I am sure you are settling into your new routines now and I hope it won’t be long until I will be seeing you all again!
I know many of you are juggling working from home/going to work whilst parenting full time and I have great admiration for the unbelievable effort you are all making to keep your child’s learning going. Children in every class are all very different so please only do as much of the prescribed work as you feel your daughter is able for and don’t let the school work upset family life. Make realistic goals and only select work that is achievable for you to do with your daughter given your own circumstances.
Please find below a suggested daily timetable to follow. This schedule will not work for all families and many of you may already have a routine established that works for you which is great. It is recommended to write a timetable out for your child so she can see what she will be doing next each day as the children love the structure of this in school and it can be motivating. I also find it helpful to give the kids active breaks between subjects in school. You may find the website Go Noodle or activities listed below useful to facilitate movement breaks.
Thank you for taking time out to support your daughter’s learning during these extremely challenging circumstances. Learning should be fun. If a piece of school work is causing stress please stop the activity and maybe try a movement break or a different activity instead. I hope you and your daughter will enjoy some of the suggested activities below! Please show/read the letter below to your daughter from me.
Best wishes,
Sharon Gleeson.
Letter to the girls in 1st Class- Ms Gleeson
Dear 1st class Girls,I hope you are all enjoying some fun activities at home with your parents. The weather is getting much nicer so be sure and get outside to play every day!
When you’re doing school work with an adult remember they are in charge. I hope any girls with brothers or sisters are being patient and respectful when adults are doing work with them. I am sure you are all being very helpful and doing lots of jobs to help out at home! Maybe you could set up a kindness jar in your house and catch members of your family being kind! Don’t forget to show everyone in your house the fun dances we do on Go Noodle!
I will be looking forward to seeing you all when we get back to school!
Be kind,
Ms. Gleeson.

Daily News
Child tells you the news they have for the day. Stick to things in their own life rather than focusing on the news on the radio or TV. Your daughter can tell you the day, the date and the weather outside each day. She can recall 1 or 2 things she did yesterday. Write down what she tells you on a whiteboard or piece of paper. Your child either types out what you’ve written or copies it down in a journal or copybook. You can create your own little newsroom on the kitchen table or you can use Green Screen apps on an iPad and record your child reading her news. You could send the video on to loved ones to keep in touch.
Starlight Combined Reading and Skills Book – p.34 – 37 (Report Reading and Writing). Do 1 page per day only.
Spellbound p.62 +63 (Week 30). Continue to do 1 Block of spellings each day with your daughter and complete accompanying exercises.
Oxford Reading Tree Book – 8 pages each day. Continue to encourage your daughter to read daily. Read a book to your daughter. Snuggle up on the couch and spend ten minutes reading for no other reason than the joy of reading a book. Of course, there are loads of benefits to reading every day but what a nice time to drop everything for a short time. Please find online sources for books below, give one a try this week and see how you get on!
If you or your child/children are a member of the local library, you can access an App or website called BorrowBox. It is free. You can use it for audio books and also, ebook. There is a children’s section: https://www.borrowbox.com/ Notes: To register, you need your library card which has your membership number on the back.
Oxford Owl Ebook Reader Library: Oxford Owl has an ebook library with over 250 books in it and offers free access to teachers and parents once you create an account at www.oxfordowl.co.uk They also have some vocabulary and comprehension activities for most of the books: www.oxfordowl.co.uk
www.sorchaj.com – This site covers phonics, dolch, Jolly Phonics including tricky word lists and practice reading sentences following the Spellbound order of words and more.
Rivet Reading: Rivet Reading App by Google is not available in the EU, but the web version of the books, with reading is. High Interest Reading books are available with help for pupils with words that are not easily decodable. Topics range from Animals to History, Sport to Science .Very useful for reluctant readers and self-guided: https://rivet.area120.com/read/#/libraryScreen
Teach Your Monster to Read: Teach Your Monster to Read is a fun activity that helps infants work on everything from initial sounds, CVC words, blends and digraphs all the way to full words and sentences. The Web platform is free (the App costs, but is not necessary): https://www.teachyourmonstertoread.com/
2 sentences in copy each day (like your daughter does for homework)
PAT worksheet – 1 word family per day
Maths
Cracking Maths – continue work from last week/ p.129 – 131 – Time (1 page per day. Ask your daughter to identify the time on clocks at home (o’clock and half past the hour only). Ask her to identify one hour or half an hour earlier or later.
Work it Out – p.56 and 57 – Continue to do an activity each day and Friday test on Friday.
Problem Solving – Do one ‘Level 1’ problem a day at the start of maths time https://nzmaths.co.nz/problem-solving
An Ghaeilge
Bua na Cainte: An Cáisc p. 93
Even if you can’t speak Irish, there are some great ways to pick up some vocabulary. One really easy activity is to pick a topic, for example: food, household objects, colours, and so on, then write down 5 words associated with that topic in a list. Next go to https://www.focloir.ie/en/ and translate the words. The great thing is that almost every word on the website has an audio recording of it so you can listen to how to pronounce the words! As a family, you could try and learn a few words every day!
Another idea is to sign up to https://www.duolingo.com/course/ga/en/Learn-Irish to learn some Irish – 5 to 10 minutes a day and who knows how fluent you’ll be when you get back!

Project Work 1st Class- Ms Gleeson
Project Work: Theme: Easter
Religion: Grow in Love: 1st Class, Theme 7: Holy Week and Easter
Art: See this website for 40+ Easter Craft ideas https://onelittleproject.com/easter-crafts-for-kids/
Suggested Idea: Let your daughter see what she could make with items she can recycle at home e.g. cut up and reuse food wrappers/old magazines/use tin foil/Easter Egg wrappers to create an Easter Egg mosaic:
What Easter means to me
Use what you have learned about Easter from Grow in Love and/or Easter traditions in your family to explain what Easter means to you. Use pictures/drawings/art and words for your project.
- How do you prepare for Easter?
- What is your favourite thing about Easter?
- What do you do to celebrate Easter Sunday?
Here are some different ways you can produce your project. Choose one or a mixture of methods. Keep your project safe to share when we get back to school!
- Write it! – Make your project on paper and bring it to school. (No bigger than A3 please!)
- Type it! – Using Google Docs, make your project adding text, images and maybe video
- Build it! – Using whatever materials you want, build and make your project.
- Present it! – Make a Google Slideshow about your project
- Make a Book! – Use Book Creator on an iPad or Chromebook to make a book about your project.
- Your way! – Present the project in whatever way you would like to. You can use writing/drawings/images you find online to present your project.

Dear Parents/ Guardians, Mrs. Quill here. I know that this a very worrying time for you – worried about your family’s health, your loved ones whom you can’t visit and your jobs. Being confined to the house is very hard on everyone too. Your daughter’s world has been turned upside down. Having to keep our distance in the outside world is hard on adults so children must find it totally alien. The world must be a very scary place for them right now. With that in mind, the homework which is up on the website is not meant to add to any stress. I have tried to mark work where there isn’t any ‘teaching’ involved. I hope ye actually enjoy doing the work together and it might create a little routine. However, every child works at her own pace and I will understand if work is not completed. I’ve also included a letter to the girls, so I’d appreciate it if you show this to your daughter. Stay well and thank you for your co-operation. Mrs. Quill Dear girls, Mrs. Quill here, missing all my lovely lassies very much! I know this is a bonkers time but guess what? It will be over in a few weeks. Everything will be back to normal soon and I’ll be giving out as usual! I don’t think the new homework on the website is too hard, so I hope nobody says “I’m stuck!” Just do your best. The main thing is to stay busy and happy. – A few girls might learn to tie your shoelaces – my knees say thank you! – Remember to help out with jobs at home and the day will go faster. – Don’t forget to keep up your exercise. Put on some music, dance and play musical statues. I’ve also put up some PE ideas that your parents can find on Youtube. Your Mom or Dad might want to join in and ye’ll have some fun! I have heard that there is going to be a programme on RTE starting Monday 30th March which is going to be like being in school. I think it will be good and I’m going to watch it myself! Have a lovely Easter and don’t eat too many eggs! Hopefully, we’ll be back in school soon after that. Don’t worry about your First Communion – it will be a great celebration, whenever it happens! Love and hugs, Mrs. Quill. Dear Parents/Guardians This is a suggested timetable. I understand that this may not work every day. The weather or the mood – of parent or child – may alter the plan. I strongly believe what is most important for the girls at this very challenging and unprecedented time is lots of reassurance, support and encouragement from everyone. The work outlined is independent work that the girls should be able to attempt themselves. However, I certainly don’t want any child or parent stressed trying to finish all of the work. Every child is different and what some pupils may get done in 20mins, another may take an hour to do. Keeping stress at a minimum is essential for mental and emotional health for all at this time. There is great value in encouraging the girls to do projects on topics of interest to them and engage in activities like gardening, baking, playing board games, tidying up, setting the table etc. I do hope that they are heeding advice and are staying at home. Please stay safe as we look forward to everything returning to normal again soon, Kind regards, Joan-Marie Healy Dear girls, I really hope that you are all well and happy. Are you getting used to our new “working from home”? I’d ask you all to try as much of the work outlined as you can. Do your best and try your hardest, but don’t worry if there are parts that you have difficulty with. Above all, I want you to be kind, caring and considerate. Help out at home and please be patient with everyone. Limit screen time and get as much fresh air as possible. Looking forward to seeing you all again soon, Ms. Healy4th Class Ms Healy

27th March 2020 Dear Parents and Girls, I hope you and your families are well. It is a difficult and strange time for everyone. I know you all miss the normal things- meeting your friends and family, playing sport, dancing, drama etc. I bet you even miss being at school! I know I miss being at school. Hopefully we will all be back to normal soon. If you have finished the work for the last two weeks here are some suggestions of what you can do now. If you are not finished just carry on at your own pace. If there is some part of the work that you don’t understand or don’t know how to do that’s ok. Leave that bit and try something else. We’ll catch up on the work when we get back to school. I understand that sometimes completing the work at home may be challenging, especially in these circumstances. You might have had extra help at school in Maths and English. It might be hard to concentrate. All I ask is that you do your best. Remember, what follows is a list of suggestions. Learning how to do things at home (laundry, ironing, cooking, cleaning) are very valuable skills too and you can be a great help to your parents. The most important thing is to be safe and healthy. Have some fun, be helpful at home, be patient with your family and learn a little every day. I’ll see you all soon. Ms Browne Maths: Chapter 21 Area. It is a long chapter so just do a little every day and we can continue after Easter. Revise Multiplication tables. Work it Out. English: Up and Running – read The Old Forge Hotel pg 166- 174 and do some of the writing activities on pg 176 and 177. Spellbound pg 50 and 51 Revision. Gaeilge: Use the words from the spelling sheets from the last two weeks and write 2 or 3 sentences every day. Remember, there are interesting words and phrases at the back of Seo Leat! If possible, speak in Irish to a family member from time to time. History: History Quest- Read Chapter 7, Ireland in the age of Revolutions and do the activities/questions. Science: Can you build a bridge using recycled materials strong enough to hold your full water bottle? Write down the Procedure- materials used, step 1, 2 etc. Draw a picture or take a photo of the bridge. This can be a family project! Religion: www.scoilnet.ie and www.growinlove.ie have some nice animations and stories of Lent and Holy Week. Nature Watch: If you have a plant/tree/bird etc near you observe and record any changes you notice. Has the plant grown? Does the bird have a nest nearby? What does the bird eat? Does it sing? Music: Sing out loud- it will make people happy! Pick a new song and learn the words. PE: Do some activity every day. Walk with your parents (keeping distance from other people). Use the trampoline, skipping rope, bicycle etc. Remember there are lots of activities available online. Dance to a favourite song. Keep moving! If you are baking or doing any interesting science experiments write down the procedure and take a photo. 27th March 2020 Dear Parents, I hope you and your families are keeping safe and well during this difficult time. Attached is a list of work for the girls to complete over the following week, Monday 30th March – Friday 3rd April. This work is schoolwork which we would be doing at the moment if we were in school. However, I understand that sometimes completing the work at home may be difficult, especially in these circumstances. In school your daughter may have had differentiated schoolwork or access to extra help. This work is sent home for your daughter to do but is not intended to be a cause of any extra anxiety or worry to either you or your daughter, so encourage your daughter to try the work, to do her best and if there is something that she cannot do or doesn’t understand, that’s ok, leave that bit and try a different part. I’ve also attached a separate list of activities or useful websites that your daughter can be working on over the next few weeks. If it’s possible for you at home to access the internet and the various websites, sometimes these can be a fun and beneficial way for your daughter to practise her schoolwork. They can serve as a break from the books. The worksheets don’t need to be printed. The girls can copy things down onto a page or into their copies. Some of the websites we have used in school already and your daughter may be familiar with them. All of your daughter’s schoolbooks can be accessed for free on the following websites, just register or login as a parent/student. I hope, as I’m sure you all do, that we’ll be back to school and some normality in the next few months. Until then mind yourselves, stay safe and I look forward to seeing you all soon. Ms. O’Sullivan Hi Girls, I hope you are all keeping safe and well. I know this is a very difficult time for you. You probably just want to see your friends. Maybe you’re not able to see your Grandparents, Aunts, Uncle or cousins at the moment and I know that’s hard. I miss seeing my family and friends too but unfortunately for another few weeks we have to be careful and do what we’re asked to do. I have sent a list of work for you to do at home girls. Try your best with it. I know it might be hard at home to concentrate. If there is some part of the work that you don’t understand or don’t know how to do that’s perfectly ok. Leave that bit and try the rest. Don’t worry too much girls if there is something that you don’t understand. We’ll catch up on all the work when we hopefully get back to school so don’t be worried about missing out on your schoolwork. Every boy and girl is the same at the moment so try your best and don’t worry. I’ve also typed a list of different activities and fun websites you can try girls over the next few weeks. Have a go at some of these, see which ones you like and play some of the games. Use your imagination girls, build something at home out of recycled materials, create something artistic, write a poem, a song, a rap! Try something new, learn a new language. This is the time to try different things and see if there’s something else you find that you like to do. You’re all very creative and have wonderful talents and I can’t wait to hear about all the things you’ve been doing at home. And by the way I saw a video and you were all fantastic in Seo Le Pádraig. Well Done! Don’t forget you can watch the RTE Junior news! I’ve added some P.E. websites too and as the weather is getting better you can do some of these activities outside in the garden, while still staying safe. Also girls, this is a very difficult time for your parents as well. They’re missing their family and friends too so I hope you’re being kind and patient at home to your brothers and sisters and parents. Ask if there are any jobs you can do to help. I know you all do this at home anyway so keep it up! Look after yourselves and your families girls. Hopefully we’ll all be back to school in a few weeks. I look forward to seeing you all girls. Try your best, be good and be safe! See you soon, Ms. O’Sullivan Gaeilge: Maths: English: History: Religion: All these websites have nice stories and activities about Lent and Easter. Target Boards (the games we play in school on the white boards) Make a multiplication/division circle (we have done these in school, check you maths copies) Bread – 50c Butter – 10c Cheese – 30c Fruit – various prices Water – €1 Milk – €1.20 Treats – various prices When pupils are making lunches/dinner/snack they have to calculate how much their meal will cost. Use real or fake money (kids can make the fake money) to count out the amount and calculate change. Pupils can also earn money to spend in the ‘Home Shop’ by doing different tasks and jobs around the house – emptying the dishwasher/making their bed/sweeping the floor etc. Some useful websites for maths activities: Some useful websites for english activities: www.scoilnet.ie/pdst/physlit/beyond/ See the school website www.stpatricksgirls.net for more activities and websites.5th Class Ms O' Sullivan

Hi Girls, I hope you and your families are keeping well during this challenging time for everybody. I’m sure you are disappointed about the Confirmation being postponed. However we all know that this decision had to be made in the interest of everybody’s health. I have a list of school work to be done for week 3 (30th of March – 3rd April). Please try your best to complete it. For girls who go to Ms Hogan’s Maths and English classes, please complete Ms Hogan’s school work. Remember this is a great time to read books. David Williams reads stories online each day. Log on to www.worldofDavidWilliams.com and click Elevenses with the world of David Williams daily FREE audio story. Try to do some daily exercise, be it walking the dog, bouncing on the trampoline, skipping, pucking the ball off the wall or something else you enjoy. RTE will be broadcasting daily “School” on TV during the Covid – 19 outbreak. It will run from 11am to 12 pm, Monday to Friday on RTE 2. Parents will be able to find the show on RTE Player. I hope that you are helping out at home, be it at meal times, keeping your room clean and tidy to name just a few. Take care of each other.
